Whether it’s an online or face-to-face session, our first appointment is focused on getting to know each other and talking about why you are coming for counselling. We will also discuss your treatment plan, give you information about confidentiality, contact, our clinic practices and answer any questions you have about our time together.
Subsequent sessions are directed by you. You may want to have a general discussion about how you are feeling or we may go through specific exercises. A counsellor’s main aim is to listen, understand and support you. And remember, you don’t have to talk about anything you’re not ready to or do anything you don’t want to do. Sessions usually last 60 minutes but can be as short as 45 minutes as directed by you.
Both aim to build self and other awareness, but differ in its foundational basis. Counselling focuses on healing. It aims to ultimately resolve old pain and improve emotional states -enabling you to have a more successful future.
Support from a trained counsellor is geared towards helping you understand and have closure with the past and being accountable for your feelings and emotions. This empowers you to move forward and reach your potential in life.
